New Delhi: The Congress party has released a list of 14 television anchors whose shows and programs will be boycotted by leaders of the united Opposition. Pawan Khera, a senior party leader, stated, “We don’t harbor hatred for these anchors, but our love for the country takes precedence.” He accused them of promoting a “platform of hatred” on a daily basis.
“We do not wish to legitimize this narrative of hatred that is eroding our society,” he added in a video message shared on X, previously known as Twitter.
The BJP swiftly responded to this announcement. Party chief JP Nadda alleged that the Congress has a history of bullying the media and stifling differing viewpoints. He asserted that every member of the Nehru-Gandhi family, including India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, had attempted to control and suppress the media.
“The history of Congress has many instances of bullying the media and silencing those with differing views.
Pandit Nehru curtailed free speech and arrested those who criticised him.
Indira Ji remains the Gold Medal winner of how to do it- called for committed judiciary, committed bureaucracy and imposed the horrific Emergency.
Rajiv Ji tried to bring media under state control but failed miserably.
Sonia Ji-led UPA was banning social media handles simply because the Congress did not like their views.”
Anil Baluni, BJP National Media In-charge, took to Twitter to express condemnation of the decision by the INDI Alliance parties to boycott and threaten journalists. He described it as reflective of oppressive and dictatorial thinking.
In a statement, the News Broadcasters & Digital Association expressed deep anguish and concern over the Opposition alliance’s decision. The association said that banning representatives of the opposition alliance from participating in TV news shows hosted by some of India’s top TV news anchors goes against the principles of democracy, indicating intolerance and endangering press freedom.
The decision to boycott specific anchors and programs was made during the first meeting of the INDIA coordination committee held at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.

The opposition has frequently accused a segment of the media of being hostile and spreading hatred. During Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress accused a section of the media of providing minimal coverage. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot echoed this sentiment when the yatra passed through the state.
In May 2019, the Congress also abstained from participating in television shows for a month. Senior party leader Randeep Surjewala had tweeted at the time, “The Congress has decided to not send spokespersons on television debates for a month. All media channels/editors are requested to not place Congress representatives on their shows.”
