Nick Marsman, a player who recently questioned Lionel Messi’s admission to the team, has left Inter Miami CF.
Nick Marsman, who recently said that Inter Miami CF wasn’t prepared for the arrival of Lionel Messi, has been let go, the team has confirmed.
Major League Soccer (MLS) permits each club to buy out one player’s contract during the course of the season, and David Beckham, a co-owner of Inter Miami, took advantage of this provision to end Marsman’s contract with the team.
Both players and the team have benefited from the buyout option. The team would gain roster flexibility and maybe save money by not having to pay the full wage stipulated in the contract, even though the player would receive some sort of monetary reward.
The MLS buyout option for goalkeeper Marsman’s contract had been exercised, Inter Miami stated on Saturday, August 5.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who transferred from Feyenoord in July 2021, has made 29 appearances for the team so far. During that time, he has allowed 49 goals, kept six clean sheets, and made a total of 88 saves in the 2021 and 2022 MLS regular seasons.
When he claimed that Inter Miami was “not ready” for Lionel Messi’s arrival earlier this summer, Nick Marsman garnered significant media attention.

“I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival. We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready,” He had told ESPN.
Marsman’s release by Inter Miami will free up money for the team to subsequently recruit another player, with recent speculations suggesting a potential reunion between Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. The striker, a former member of Barcelona and Liverpool, recently revealed that he will be departing Gremio in December.
