The top five European leagues with the most goals scored so far this season are presently being led by Serhou Guirassy. The 27-year-old’s parents are from Guinea, and he was born in Arles in southern France. He began his playing career with Montargis and Amilly, two clubs in France’s sixth division. He rose to fame with the Ligue 2 team Laval, where at the age of 17, he became the team’s youngest-ever professional player.
He scored 20 goals in 49 games for the club’s first and reserve teams during his two years there. After leaving the club, he signed a four-year contract with Lille in 2015. His stint in Lille was shortened since he failed to provide any goals to the team. He was given the opportunity to play for the Bundesliga team FC Koln after scoring eight goals in 16 second-division games while on loan at the club in the second half of the 2015–16 season. In 2016, he was given the loan to the second-tier club Auxerre.
Serhou Guirassy led all goal scorers in all competitions during the 2016–17 season, however the German club was demoted the same year despite his efforts to help them avoid it. He improved much more upon his return to France, first with Amiens and then Rennes, scoring Rennes’ first-ever Champions League goal. He was sent to Stuttgart for the entire season in the final year of his contract. His 22 club appearances and 11 goals during that season won him a three-year contract on a permanent basis.
Serhou Guirassy’s Playing style:
In the penalty area, Guirassy is renowned for his aptitude for locating open space. He can use his constant awareness of his teammates’ and the opposition’s locations to his advantage. He can also anticipate the movements of the opposing defence and frequently moves into scoring positions before they are even aware that it is occurring.
The international for Guinea oddly has traits with England great Wayne Rooney; he was always capable of playing from either wing and had a commanding presence in the air. Similar to Rooney, Guirassy plays as a forward, has strong finishing ability, and can be dangerous on counterattacks.
A player with a lot of potential who is already having a significant influence at the club and international levels, Guirassy is one of football’s rising stars. He will be a player to watch this season if he maintains his current form.
Form in the 2023-24 season:
The performances of Guirassy this season have been impressive; he is the only player in the top five leagues in Europe to have scored 10 goals in the season’s first five games. Harry Kane was anticipated to dominate the Bundesliga, but he currently trails Guirassy by six goals. With one game remaining, Stuttgart presently leads the league with a two-point advantage over Bayer Leverkusen in second place.
To put Guirassy’s scoring achievement into perspective, only Robert Lewandowski has ever done this for Bayern Munich in the 2020–21 season, and no one in Bundesliga history has ever had more than 10 goals after five games in a season. The striker’s recent performance against the freshly promoted Darmstadt team earned plaudits from the Stuttgart coach. He has been in excellent form this season and intends to keep it up in order to set more records.
