Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Mamman Khan, the focal point of the Nuh violence, has been arrested by Haryana Police. They assert the presence of substantial evidence to justify his arrest. The MLA had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking relief from detention, maintaining that he was not in Nuh during the unrest.
Police’s Stand on the Case
Haryana Police maintains that Mamman Khan’s involvement was established through meticulous investigation. They possess phone call records and other forms of evidence that raise questions about his claims of innocence.
The Unrest and Mamman Khan’s Involvement
The violence erupted following an alleged attack on a procession by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal on July 31. The unrest spilled over to Gurugram and surrounding areas, resulting in the tragic murder of a mosque’s Imam and six confirmed deaths.
Mamman Khan’s SIT Demand
In his legal battle, Mamman Khan demanded the formation of a high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IG rank officers. His goal was to ensure an impartial and independent inquiry into the matter.
Contesting the Evidence
Mamman Khan’s defense argued that he was falsely implicated and was not present in Nuh during the violence. They presented his alibi of being in Gurugram from July 26 to August 1. However, the government lawyer countered this claim, citing phone tower location tracking and statements from the MLA’s personal security officer as evidence against him.
